Senior Systems Architect

Description:

The Senior Systems Architect will be responsible for designing the core infrastructure and platform for the BigMachines computing and operating environment. This includes network topology, hardware, storage, configuration management, software deployment, IT security, automation, and databases. The ideal candidate will have depth and experience in multiple disciplines, including systems and network engineering, software development, and relational databases, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

This is a senior technology leadership role, reporting directly to senior development management and influencing both present and future technology decisions for the organization. Subsequently, the individual in this position must be capable of communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications:

• 8+ years of IT industry experience
• Previous software development in at least one object-oriented programming languages (preferably Java or C#)
• Proficiency in one or more scripting/development languages (i.e. Python, Perl, etc)
• Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals (routing, firewalls, VPN tunnels, load balancing, etc).
• Experience with one or more RDBMS platforms (preferably Oracle and MySQL).
• Understanding of Virtualization and cloud computing.
• A solid background with x86 hardware and SAN/NAS storage
• Ability to troubleshoot difficult, cross-functional performance issues (i.e. application, network, systems, and databases).
• Capable of mentoring junior developers and operations staff.
• UNIX systems engineering - kernel fundamentals, performance tuning, security, etc.
• Experience with DNS and multiple data center topologies.
• Ability to design highly available services and solutions.
