Description:

Position Purpose
 Directs the activities of, and has responsibility for, members in direct production and indirect support functions in a manufacturing environment. Departments may include machining, special processes, and assembly and test.

Duties:

Essential Functions
 

1. Coaches and mentors members.

2. Responsible for department metrics and performance.

3. Responsible for department budgets.

4. Identifies, encourages and provides learning/training opportunities.

5. Continuous improvement in support of department and company goals.

6. Responsible for annual performance appraisals, disciplinary and termination actions.

7. Coordinates, evaluates and justifies the need for new and/or additional equipment.

8. Develops, reviews and maintains staffing requirements.

9. Coordinates the support from external departments as needed (i.e. engineering, manufacturing engineering, HR, accounting, etc.).

10.Establishes boundaries.

11. Supports and encourages team building.

12. Provides feedback, both positive and negative, to others.

13. Establishes and promotes a positive work environment.

14.Resolves conflicts.

15. Fosters an open, empowering team environment.

16. Responsible for members adherence to all related work instructions (i.e. safety rules, SPs, OPs, WIs, etc.).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
 1. Work requires high school diploma or equivalent with two-year degree,and 0-5 years of related process or leader/supersivor experience.

2. Good verbal and written communication skills.

3. Good interpersonal skills.

4. Must be open-minded to new ideas and concepts with the ability to change.

5. Ability to learn process concepts and process control.

6. Possesses basic problem-solving skills.

7. Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks to achieve departmental goals.

8. Understands and supports lean manufacturing techniques (waste elimination, parts flow and pull).

9. Must be self-motivated and results oriented.

10. Possesses good computer/PC skills.

11. Ability to understand MRP, capacity planning, pull systems and part costs.


Education/Formal Training
 Work requires high school diploma or equivalent with two-year degree. Bachelor degree is strongly preferred.

Experience
 

0-5 years of related process or leader/supersivor experience.

Previous shipping/receiving/logistics experience; shipping/receiving/logistics leadership experience preferred; demonstrated application of lean manufacturing.
